Precision Oncology in the National Spotlight on Sunrise TV
16 July 2025 – Precision Oncology in the National Spotlight on Sunrise TV
Omico’s Professor David Thomas recently appeared on Sunrise, helping bring national attention to precision oncology — a cutting-edge, proven, and rapidly evolving approach to cancer care that is already changing lives.
He was joined by fellow advocates Samuel Johnson, from the Love Your Sister Foundation, and Jason Langdon, a consumer advocate living with cancer, to highlight the importance of ensuring this care is available to more Australians, in cities, regional centres, and rural communities alike.
For people facing cancer — whether themselves or through a loved one — knowing the full range of options is critical. While precision oncology is not yet standard care in Australia, Omico’s programs are providing access for those who need it most, wherever they live, while we continue to advocate for it to become routine for all.
Watch highlights and interviews below.
More than 25,000 Australians have now taken part in Omico’s programs — a major milestone in advancing precision oncology across the country.
But it’s not just about numbers. It’s about people like Jason.
After a diagnosis of metastatic cancer, Jason says his “world evaporated overnight.” Today, he’s doing “bloody great” — and wants other Australians facing cancer to know that precision oncology could offer a fighting chance.
So what is precision oncology? It’s a personalised approach that uses genomic profiling to identify what’s driving a person’s cancer (information otherwise not available), then we can match them to treatments most likely to work for them.
At Omico, we offer comprehensive genomic profiling (CGP) for free to Australians with less survivable cancers, and we’re working hard to make it mainstream (standard) care for everyone to guide treatment.

Befriend your oncologist.
That’s the advice from Jason — someone who’s lived through advanced cancer and now helps others to explore their options.
He joined Samuel Johnson from the Love Your Sister Foundation and Professor David Thomas from Omico on Sunrise to share why precision oncology matters.
Precision oncology is not one-size-fits-all. It uses CGP to identify the genetic changes driving a person’s cancer to grow — and matches them to treatments most likely to work.
Omico provides this service free for people with less survivable cancers. It’s already changing lives — and we’re committed to working with government and industry to make it mainstream care.

We want to make sure no one’s left behind.
That’s the message from Professor David Thomas on Sunrise— because Australians in the bush often face worse outcomes when it comes to cancer care.
Through our partnership with Love Your Sister Foundation, we’re helping to change that. While just 25% of Australians live in regional and rural areas, 36% of Omico’s participants are from these communities.
That’s partnerships in action— bringing cutting-edge, precision cancer care to more Australians, no matter where they live.
